At our home, we love crafting through the holidays. So when Crayola asked if we would try the Crayola Crayon Melter we gladly accepted the challenge. Our melted crayon Christmas ornaments are now proudly displayed on our tree!

The award-winning Crayon Melter lets DIYers and children alike safely melt crayons and create on a variety of surfaces using liquefied wax. It works on glass, wood, canvas and much more!
You can be creating amazing art in less than a minute. Insert a piece of crayon, plug in and start embellishing virtually any surface. The possibilities are endless! We made two different types of ornaments. First up, we embellished wooden shapes to make beautiful ornaments. The wood ornaments we used can be found at craft stores.
These ornaments were easy to paint with the liquid crayon and provided loads of satisfaction. The cutouts provided the perfect guide for the melted wax. Don’t worry the Crayon Melter has a low-heat tip. It is safe and easy to use.
We found when changing colors of crayon use a paper towel to use up the previous color. This worked well especially when changing colors that didn’t mix well and made a muddy color.
The Crayola Crayon Melter is versatile. The melted crayon will stick to a variety of surfaces. When we were done with our wooden ornaments we gave plastic a try. We used two piece plastic balls so we could insert a tea light to make our Christmas ornaments glow.
Working with the liquid crayon is satisfying so be careful to not do too much. Simple designs are best. My daughter got a bit carried away.
Place the lighted battery operated tealight inside the plastic ornament and snap together. The illuminated balls were magical and my daughter was proud!

Crayola Crayon Melter Tips
- Keep designs simple
- We found using colors that mix well worked great. For instance, we used red, then orange, then yellow. Going from green to red made gray for a bit, but a paper towel helped to remove that color.
- Encourage kids to be expressive. Put on some music and let the wax and creativity flow.
- One layer of wax works great. Going over the design with more wax often removed the first layer.
What would you make with the Crayola Crayon Melter? I am thinking about using it on sheets of transparent plastic for stain glass looking window displays. Kids can make a design on the transparency sheets with black permanent marker then fill in the areas with the liquid wax. We will also give small wrapped canvases a try to make some beautiful wall art.
