When life gives you snow make snow ice cream! It is super simple and a fun kids activity especially on a snow day from school! This snow cream is made with simple ingredients I am sure you already have in your pantry.  It is the perfect inside activity to do when it’s too cold to be outside for very long!  Briefly run outside and grab some clean snow and you are ready to go.

Here are a few more of our favorite boredom busting activities. Kids will love to try making homemade stickers! Did you know you can make your own slime?  I have also shared free sewing sheets (sewing is always great) perfect for teaching kids (or anyone) to sew!

How to make snow ice cream

  • freeze the bowl you plan to use to gather snow
  • keep the bowl you will be mixing the snow cream in the freezer before you start
    add cold milk in slowly
  • have all the ingredients ready when bring the snow indoors

Snow Ice Cream Recipe

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups snow
  1. In bowl mix powdered sugar, milk and vanilla together. Add in three cups of snow until you reach your desired consistency. Our snow was light an fluffy, but that might not always be the case. Top with sprinkles if you like!

Snow Ice Cream Tips:

  • Chocolate Snow Ice Cream

Want to make chocolate snow ice cream? How about stirring in a package of hot chocolate mix into this recipe. YUM!

  • Strawberry Snow Cream

If you like strawberry flavored ice cream add 1/4 cup strawberry Nesquick to the above recipe in place of the powdered sugar. You could also try using strawberry flavored syrup (like the Hershey’s chocolate syrup)

  • How about mint chocolate chip?

How about giving my favorite ice cream flavor a try for your next batch.

  • Snow Cream with condensed milk

You can also make snow ice cream with a can of condensed milk if you don’t have powdered sugar in your pantry.  Use about 10 cups fresh clean snow with 1 small can condensed milk (not evaporated milk, the the thick sweet canned milk). Add in a teaspoon of vanilla to make it taste a bit richer if you like.  Remember it might be necessary to adjust the snow amount. Snow can vary in moisture content. Some times it is dry and others you find it to be wet and moist.

  • Snow Ice Cream made without snow

What if you don’t have snow? You can actually make snow cream without snow.  You will need to use finely crushed ice in place of the snow and blend it together in a blender.

  • Snow Ice Cream without vanilla

You can make snow ice cream without vanilla extract. It is only in the recipe to add depth of flavor, but I bet your kids will never know…… especially if there are sprinkles.

  • Extra snow cream?

One reason we like the recipe I shared is it makes just enough for a couple servings. However, if you use condensed milk you might have leftovers. Place extra snow cream in a freezer proof container.  The snow ice cream will get really hard once frozen. Microwave for 15 seconds, just enough to soften so it can be scooped out and enjoyed again.
